Heard a wonderful piece of news last night. John, the Chin refugee we've been in contact with has been registered with the UNHCR in Malaysia. That means he's now one step closer to freedom. He will still need to attend an interview before finding out if he'll be given refugee status or not. If successful, he will be put on the waiting list for deportation to a better country. It's a long process but at least he is one little step closer.

At the same time, it reminded me of Markus and I fight back the tears.

A Note From A Refugee

This made my day yesterday. Last night I heard back from the Chin refugee himself. Don't ask me where he found internet access. Anyway, I am so touched by the message he sent to both myself and Jia who put me in touch with him. We are just continuing where Markus left off. When the project started, little did we realise its potential impact.

I am sorry for not reply you soon. This is very nice to get your letter and I am very thank to you and Mun. Everyone can post VOCR newsletter to their own blog,especially in this blog.

I am very appreciated this VOCR blog. I will sent you VOCR newsletter every week and you can adjust by yourself to post in this blog. I would like one of you to write artical for VOCR newsletter because I will combine every volume and some artical as VOCR magazine.

I am very suprising is that this newsletter can still a live and continuing. This VOCR newsletter was route by the chin people in every country and some of my friends in abroad, so I hope this will give the unity to among the chin comunity in the world. And I thought this newsletter will be a big voice for Myanmar refugee in the world.

"Changing the World One Pixel at a Time" Project has been set in motion.

I figured I don't have to wait till I'm rich before I can start giving something back or effect change. So I've decided to make full use of the only one skill I have, the only thing I'm good at. I'm volunteering my time to work on pro bono web projects for non-profits to help create change and to help the voiceless be heard.

Am currently working on this project for the Chin Refugees. These refugees ran away from their country to escape religious and political persecution but in Malaysia, they face a reality as hard as the one back home. They are fighting hard to obtain their refugee status by the local government. Not securing refugee status means their children cannot attend school and are deprived of education, they live in constant fear of the police & RELA officers, they are reduced to accepting underpaid jobs and are sometimes forced into hiding in the jungles to escape this hard reality.

I had an epiphany yesterday. Some time back, I said that I knew I was meant to do more but I didn't know what just yet. I think it has finally come to me. I know what I'm meant to do...
